Volunteer Manager (part-time)

We are seeking a Volunteer Manager to join us at our location in Newton Centre where we serve a full complement of groceries to 200 families a week in an outdoor curbside distribution model. This position would be ideal for a former volunteer or program manager in a non profit setting, or, a customer or human services manager who enjoys building camaraderie among a diverse group of people who are all committed to ending food insecurity for their neighbors.

 

The core tasks of the job are:

  1. Administration and use of our volunteer management software system.

  2. Collaboration with staff to ensure volunteer shifts are filled at a rate of 90% or higher with volunteers assigned who are appropriate for the jobs available.

  3. Development and implementation of projects that will increase volunteer recruitment, deliver job specific training, develop volunteer leadership and retention, and provide fun and rewarding means for recognition in partnership with staff and select board members.

  4. Oversight of all student groups and completion of administrative/faculty assessments.

  5. Coordination and oversight of special project volunteers such as corporate groups and organizational partners.

 

On site schedule:

Every Tuesday: Six hours between 10AM and 6PM

Third Saturday of the month: 10AM - 2PM

One Greater Boston Food Bank Truck Unload:  2 hours (varies, Mon/Thurs/Fri).

 

Remote work schedule: Flexible, approximately 10-12 hours a week (depending upon projects in process) with a need for timely responsiveness to volunteers and/or outreach to make sure service day schedules are full.

 

Skills and experience required:

  • 3-5 Years direct experience managing staff and/or volunteers.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required; ability to speak a second language preferred (Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin).

  • Experience and/or knowledge about best practices in human resources, employee development and/or volunteer management as well as applicable laws.

  • Able to use social media, web based applications, Microsoft Office applications, volunteer scheduling software or other scheduling tools, and Google Docs.

  • Experience in a nonprofit or human services organization, preferred.

  • Engaging and effective communicator who may have skills in conflict resolution.

  • Ability to communicate well with different types of people. Sensitivity in interacting with a diverse population experiencing food and economic insecurity. 

  • Ability to lift 15-25 lbs, walk several hours and work outdoors.

 

Candidate will need to pass a CORI background review.

 

Salary: Hourly, based upon experience, range $24-$27/hr.
