Empty Bowls is a national grassroots effort at fighting food insecurity within our community; and at Lasell's Empty Bowls club, we are dedicated to raising awareness and building support for our local food pantry, Centre Street Food Pantry. We have been at Lasell for five years, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, we've had to shift from our large, in person gathering to a Zoom virtual event to raise money for Centre Street. Our club members have worked tirelessly to support CSFP and are dedicated to creating change and awareness in the community.
At our most recent event in 2019, we were able to raise $2,700. Last semester in the fall, we planned a successful food drive where we collected over 300 items for donation. This spring, we are planning an online auction of the bowls and other art pieces in a webinar format with live entertainment and exciting prizes. We will donate all the money raised to CSFP. With this project, our hope is to keep awareness of food insecurity prominent in our Newton community, especially with the effects of the pandemic.
