Our mission is to provide families within our community with consistent access to nutritious food in a dignified and sensitive environment. Dozens of families shop each time we are open and more than 10 new families come to us each month. Our shoppers are primarily from Newton and span all ages and situations.

The Centre Street Food Pantry opened its doors in January of 2011 to begin supplying food items to families and individuals in need from Newton and surrounding communities.

Pantry volunteers unload 10,000 pounds of food each month from the Greater Boston Food Bank.  This is supplemented by donations from many community partners and businesses.

52% of our shoppers have children under 18 under their care and 86% of our shoppers live in Newton.
The food pantry distributes more than 850 bags of groceries each month valued at more than $100,000. But, because of donations and our ability to purchase food through the Greater Boston Food Bank, the pantry’s actual food expenses are only 15% of that amount.

At Centre Street Food Pantry,
20% more people sought our help in 2015 than in 2014.

We provide food for an average of 200 families a month (up 80% from 2012 and 33% from 2013).
